WHY YOU NEED TO WORK WITH A PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETER

5 QUICK REASONS WHY YOU CAN'T LEAVE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA TO THE AMATEURS...

...And *spoiler alert* you know them already!

It happens all too often that I will be meeting with a business because they want a piece of work done. Perhaps some new SEO copy for a web page or blog content. And I’ll ask them what their marketing strategy is, or who their Social Media Manager is. Only to be met with a blank stare, and then something along the lines of: ‘oh, we don’t have the budget for social media marketing right now”.

One of the most consistent things that I come across is hearing that smaller businesses rely on their staff to manage their social media channels. So in winter ski seasons, this usually means that they will have seasonnaires, who are often only committed to the company for five months, managing their Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and more.

And while your chef/chalet-host/receptionist might be an excellent chef/chalet-host/receptionist, it is unlikely that they can put together a strategic and successful social media campaign for you.

A business without social media marketing is like skis without wax. You're working really hard, but going nowhere fast.

WHY DOES HAVING A DEDICATED SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER MATTER?

Relying on staff in other roles to manage your digital marketing s going to be challenging for so many reasons. On the surface, it looks ok. You might get excellent images and build some personality into your brand messaging. But here’s why it’s not going to work. And *spoiler alert* you already know these things!

  1. There is no strategy behind your posting, which means no consistency and no real value to your audience.
  2. Your staff already have a full-time job to focus on, as do you. And they must learn how to do that role correctly without the added pressure of putting together successful social media posts.
  3. You often run out of steam mid-season. Sure, Christmas and New Year went well. But what’s happening through February…?
  4. It can damage your brand. It only takes one well-meant but tone deaf post to alienate your audience. (And then you’ll be contacting me for crisis management).
  5. You’ll miss important events because you haven’t got them scheduled. Think about it. Sure, it’s nice to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day on the 14th, but you need to be talking about how your Valentine’s product or service is exactly what your audience needs BEFORE the 14th. For example, at the end of January, you might start promoting your fabulous: romantic dinner for 2/ski & spa-hotel breaks/exclusive couples massages, etc. You want to build up excitement and desire and bring in those bookings.

Your staff or seasonnaires are not going to do that.
