Why YOU NEED TO BE PRIORITISING VERTICAL VIDEO

IF YOU'RE NOT USING VIDEO IN YOUR SKI MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA, IT'S A MISTAKE

Did you know that 78% of social media users only look at their social media on their phones ?

What is a phone? It’s a rectangle. It’s a vertical rectangle. Do you see where I’m going with it this?

It fits with vertical video, and we need to start creating content that fits this rectangle-shape phone we all carry in our pocket. And considering we’ve all had camera phones for what 20+ years? Amazingly, it’s taken us this long to fully admit that we need to be creating content that fits that screen size. And that is what this blog is all about. I want you to understand why creating vertical video needs to be – or should already be – an essential part of your social media and your digital marketing strategy.

Why Do I Need Video Content?

Every single app is currently optimising the platform for vertical video. So this is from LinkedIn ads – who told me last week as I was creating an advert for a client – “did you know that vertical video performs better”. To Facebook announcing last week that they’re changing their algorithm. Now, 50% of what you will see when you open up Facebook will be video content and reels. I.e., vertical video. TikTok it’s a fully immersive platform where the video takes up your entire screen. TikTok really is the king of vertical video. Instagram is talking about heavily pushing reels i.e. vertical video. This is to the point that they’re trying to also convert their static imagery to vertical posts rather than the classic square.

So every single platform is optimising themselves and TELLING you that you need to be creating vertical video.

But video content is not Interesting to our target market

…well, unless your target market does not use social media. I’m afraid I have to disagree. All the social platforms are pushing video content over static images.

Where you are confused is that you might be thinking about, e.g., TikTok, and it’s all dancing, girls and pointing and lip syncing etc. And you are saying that this is not suitable for our audience.

So you’re not going to create any video content, ever.

But this is absolutely the wrong way to think. With all platforms, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and  LinkedIn all pushing vertical video, if you want to engage with your target market on one of those platforms, then your marketing strategy for your small business or your ski business needs to include video.

If you are not incorporating video – and specifically vertical video – then you are missing out on a critical tool to grow your business.

Creating video can seem terrifying if video is not something you’ve ever used on your channels.

But, it would help if you found a way to get on board with video content and get comfortable with having a method of producing or creating them as part of your marketing strategy.

Jen’s Top Tip

Look, if you want to grow your account, get new eyes on your business and reach new people – i.e., get in front of potential clients. Video is the best way to do this with organic content. Basically with out paying for adverts.

If you lack the time, interests or skills to do this, then we should talk! I provide Reels (video) content creation packages for you and investment starts at 150€ per month.

How to get started creating video content

I don’t want to repeat myself,  but all the channels are giving us clear clues that video content is what they want to see. All of my clients with whom I’m producing video content they’re experiencing much higher organic reach and engagement levels.

And I don’t want to be one of those marketers who says, “I’ve done this thing, and it works for me, so you should all do it as well” because that’s not the case. But I am saying that all the clues are on the platforms. And if you are looking to grow and reach new people and get fresh eyes on your accounts, the clues are that you should be creating video content. So what I suggest to you is that you should TEST the theory.

how to test whether video content works for you

So, for example, choose 30 days and start creating some vertical video. Start putting together some reels and get posting. You don’t have to post them every day. But commit to making something every week. So it might be two posts a week. It might be three posts a week on whatever platform you use. Then, start tracking the data record and look at the analytics. Look at how many people are actually – not just seeing it – but watching your content to the end. By this, I mean watching the full video content. Then have a look at how much engagement you’re getting. By engagement, I mean:

  • Likes
  • Shares
  • Comments

You can see how much you interact with people who see your video content.

At the end of 30 days, look at those numbers, analyse that data, and compare it to the 30 days previously when perhaps you weren’t using any video content at all. Again, I would be amazed if you didn’t see a positive increase in the amount of engagement or reach that you are having on your posts.

Now get out there - and video it!

So there you go. Here’s my challenge to you guys it’s to take 30 days and commit to creating some vertical video content for the platform you usually use to engage with your audience. So whether that’s LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or maybe a couple of those, create some vertical video and get posting and if you want any digital support, tag me in your post. I’llI’lle along and give you a cheer and a well done. I can also provide you with some little tips and advice along the way if that’s what you’re looking for!
